Newington Armory Adaptive Reuse
The adaptive reuse saw Inten return to the armaments depot in the Homebush Bay precinct, being the third consecutive successful tender won through SOPA. The project involved works across a large section of the armory site including the construction of a new external stage and sail structure, the transformation of a heritage warehouse into a performing space including feature entrances, theatrical lighting, acoustic linings and mobile stage system, the construction of a timber pedestrian foot bridge, access solutions to a number of heritage buildings and minor wharf restorations. The project demanded high level finishes, historical restoration, tight programming and the added challenges of working within a threatened habitat.
